The Magic of Christmas at the start of Summer

It is probably strange to do a postmortem about a Christmas themed game when we are practically in Summer, but the other day I happened to listen to the Sound of Christmas, which I used for the ending of The Legendary Ice Queen, and I felt like a cozy wave of happiness through the body.

The game itself was a submission to a game jam, but before that I already had the idea of making something about winter holidays, something involving maybe Santa Claus, little elves, presents. And the the "Ice Queen" themed jam popped up in my stream and I said myself "Well, I could just put an Ice Queen instead of Santa Claus."
It is a very straightforward game, even more linear than the Wizard's Tower, where at least you can explore a bit the village and come back from the dungeon if you want to do so. The most difficult part was finding the tiles, the RTP is highly lacking in winter graphics, but thankfully RPG Maker artists like Avery, Pandamaru and whtdragon have offered their skill for free to help people like me building their projects.

Selecting the music was difficult for the opposite reason: too many marvelous free songs on pixabay! I spent lot of commuting time listening and re-listening, imagining where I would play this track and where this other. Hours! And yet I had so much fun. It was December and really, this helped putting me in a Christmas mood.
Because you see, I live in a Country where Christmas is not a tradition, it is not celebrated at all. Even as a commercial holiday, it is not that important, and so I was longing for a way  to feel more of that magic, despite no one else around me caring about it.

This is also, for me, the meaning of the final line of the game:
"If you don't find magic in the World, may you be the one to create it."

And personally I must say that it worked! It worked because, when I look back at 6 months ago and I listen to the music I used and I play the game, I feel this nostalgic Christmas bubble surrounding me, even now that the sun shines and the temperatures near 30℃ .

Before concluding this post, I would like to give a huge thank to Rebekah Amber Clark for having enjoyed my game and streamed it on Youtube and Twitch. I still watch that video from time to time and it gives me motivation to keep making games. Because yes, I am making a Little Adventurers 3 and I hope for it to be ready by the end of Summer. But this is topic for another day.

For now, goodbye and stay magic!
